25 year old male Mr.N.Elavarasan was suffering from chronic kidney disease and uncontrolled hypertension for 2 years He had been visiting native medicine doctors for the same and was found to be futile. He became frustrated with uraemic symptoms in the form of nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and extreme fatigue.
With the above complaints he was referred to Vadamalayan Hospitals Dindigul .On evaluation the patients kidney was shrunken completely and was incapable of functioning. His biochemical parameters were Urea 212mg/dl and creatinine – 13.1 md/dl. His haemoglobin was 4 g/dl .Our Nephrologist Dr. Jafrine Nishanth advised the patient to initiate haemodialysis and to continue weekly twice haemodialysis till kidney transplant. He was on weekly twice haemodialysis.
He received 4 medications to control BP. He was on salt and fluid restricted diet. His routine was affected due to hemodialysis. Moreover he felt extreme fatigue, headache during post haemodialysis.
Due to intolerance in haemodialysis and knowing transplant as better treatment modality his parents were willing for transplant and willing to donate their organs. We went ahead for finding prospective donor among them and were able to identify his father as the potential prospective donor. He is ABO compatible with good HLA match. On 10.12.2023 Kidney transplantation successfully performed by our team of medical experts Dr.Jafrine Nishanth, Dr.Hemanath – as Nephrologist, Dr.Dev Anand, Dr.Narendran as Anaesthesiologist. Dr.Chandramurali, Dr. Muthuvijayan, Dr. Sathish Kinne , Dr. Lokavijayan, Dr.Sathya selvam – as Transplant surgeons.
1 month following post-transplant, he didn’t require any session of hemodialysis. His urea 36 mg/dl and creatinine1.2 mg/dl. His hemoglobin improved from 4 g/dl pre transplant to 12 g/dl. He requires only 1 antihypertensive for his control of blood pressure. He is putting out good amount of urine approximately 3.5 lit/day. He has no restriction to food and water.
He need to continue Life time immunosuppressant’s for preventing rejection of the organ and to follow healthy hygienic life styles to get rid of infections and to have proper follow up with nephrologist.
